What is VenaCure™ and How Does It Work?
VenaCure™ is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins in the leg. VenaCure™ is performed using image guidance and medical lasers to close the affected veins, thus alleviating the pain and self-consciousness associated with the varicose veins.
Your veins carry blood from the capillaries to the heart. In your leg, this means the blood has to flow upward, against gravity. Consequently, these veins have one-way valves to prevent the blood from backflowing. Over time these valves can fail to close tightly, allowing blood to pool and causing the bulging and twisting characteristic of varicose veins.
Medical lasers work by delivering light energy to the targeted tissue with extreme precision. In the hands of a skilled physician, lasers offer far less risk and complications than conventional surgery. VenaCure™ fixes varicose veins at the source by delivering just the right wavelength of laser energy to the affected vein, causing it to close. Your body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins.
In clinical trials laser treatment has proved to be 97% effective. You should experience no recurrence in the veins that have been treated. Follow-up procedures may be desired to obtain optimal aesthetic results.

What to Expect During VenaCure™
The VenaCure™ procedure takes about 45 minutes and requires a local anesthesia. There is minimal discomfort, no general anesthesia, and you can begin walking as soon as the procedure is complete.
The incompetent saphenous vein, a major vein in the leg that runs from the foot to the thigh near the surface of the skin, is accessed by a small puncture of the vein near the knee. The entry point is so small it doesn’t require stitches. A thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein through a sheath and the laser light is emitted through the fiber. While you might feel some unfamiliar sensations, it is not painful.
How to Prepare for a VenaCure™ Procedure
Once you have been told that your varicose veins can be treated by this procedure, TRA will assist you with the referral process. Please note the referral process can take up to three months, depending on your insurance requirements. When you schedule your appointment, you will receive preparation instructions and prescriptions for Xanax, analgesic cream, and thigh-high compression hose.
Take the Xanax 60 minutes before your arrival time. The analgesic cream should be applied to the leg also 60 minutes before your arrival time. Apply the cream from your knee to your groin on the inner thigh. To prevent your hand from becoming numb, wear a latex glove to apply the cream. Wrap your leg with plastic wrap when you are finished.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring the prescribed thigh-high compression hose with you. You will need to wear them following the procedure.
You will need a ride to and from the office the day of the procedure due to the sedative.
