Computed Tomography (CT)

What is a CT Scan?
A CT scan (computed tomography) is a highly advanced medical imaging test that uses X-ray technology and computer processing to capture detailed, cross-sectional images of the body. This scan provides clear visualization of various tissues, including the lungs, bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels. CT imaging is commonly used to detect injuries, diagnose diseases, and rule out medical conditions with high accuracy.
What to Expect During Your CT exam at TRA?
At TRA Medical Imaging, patient care is our top priority. When you arrive for your CT scan, a skilled CT technologist will review your medical history and any allergies before your exam begins. They will also be available throughout your scan to ensure your comfort and answer any questions you may have.
Preparing for Your CT Scan
Before Your Appointment
- Our team will provide you with specific preparation instructions and your appointment check-in time in advance.
- Depending on the type of CT scan, you may need to fast or follow other specific guidelines before your exam.
What to Wear
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment.
- You may be asked to change into a medical gown before your scan.
- Remove any metal jewelry or accessories in the area being scanned (such as earrings or necklaces) before arriving. Please note that lockers may not be available at every location.
During the CT Scan
- CT scans are typically fast and painless, but you will be on the scanning bed for 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the type and number of scans required.
- Most patients lie on their back, but your position may vary depending on the specific CT exam.
- Some scans require contrast material for enhanced imaging. This may be given as a flavored oral contrast drink or an IV (intravenous) injection to improve visibility of certain structures.
Getting Your CT Scan Results
After your scan, a board-certified radiologist will carefully analyze your images and generate a detailed report. Your referring healthcare provider will receive the results and discuss them with you, addressing any follow-up questions or next steps in your care.
