Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

What Is an MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive medical imaging technique that uses a powerful magnet, radio waves, and advanced computer processing to generate highly detailed images of organs, soft tissues, bones, and other internal body structures. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use radiation, making it a safe and effective diagnostic tool for a variety of conditions.

Your MRI Exam at TRA

At TRA Medical Imaging, we prioritize expert care, patient comfort, and accurate results. From the moment you schedule your MRI to the completion of your exam, our experienced MRI technologists provide personalized support every step of the way.

Before your scan, an MRI technologist will:

  • Review your medical and allergy history
  • Answer any questions or concerns you may have
  • Ensure you are as comfortable and relaxed as possible

If you experience claustrophobia or anxiety during MRI scans, our technologists are skilled in helping patients feel at ease. If needed, you may consult your physician about taking a mild sedative before your appointment.

What to Expect on the Day of Your MRI

To ensure a smooth experience, you will receive detailed preparation instructions before your exam, including check-in time and any necessary precautions.

Key Details About Your MRI Appointment:

  • Exam Duration: Most MRI scans take 30-45 minutes, though the entire process, including registration, may take up to 1.5 hours.
  • What to Wear: You will be asked to change into a gown to prevent any interference from metal in your clothing. A secure locker is available for personal belongings, jewelry, and electronic devices.
  • Noise Management: The MRI machine produces humming and thumping sounds. We provide earplugs, headphones, or music to help reduce noise and enhance comfort.
  • Contrast & Additional Equipment: Some MRI exams may require an intravenous (IV) contrast injection or a coil (specialized imaging device) placed over the area being scanned to improve image quality.

Receiving Your MRI Results

After your scan, a board-certified radiologist will carefully analyze your MRI images. A detailed diagnostic report will be sent to your referring healthcare provider, who will review the findings with you and discuss any next steps.

At TRA Medical Imaging, we are committed to providing accurate results with compassionate, expert care—helping you and your physician make informed healthcare decisions.
